When starting my computer it says NTLDR is compressed, press ctrl alt delete. I can do this all day and it just keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. I can't get windows to come up. Please if somebody has a suggestion let me know!

An NTLDR is compressed error is pretty easy to fix(much better then NTLDR is missing errors!).

First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1.   Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.   When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.   When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4.   When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.   Now you should be at the comman prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:

Code:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Your computer should now reboot, and everything "should" work!

:(Hi my name is frank i purchased a dell 9200 from a person but come to find out it has a password on bios as soon as i turn it on it ask for a password. What can i do about this ? I would appreciate any help you can give me . Huh

hi im having the "ntldr" problem too, but i do not have a windows xp disk, because my computer came with xp on it so i dont think a disk was involved. please help

I did the attrib -c ntldr instructions but now all I get is a blank, black, screen, Monitor is lit but nothing on screen.

Any ideas?

Any ideas?

You need to restart your computer after using the attrib command. If you still get a black screen after rebooting then you have a different problem and need to provide more details so we can help you fix it.
